For those who played the horror known as "Mirror's Edge" (otherwise known as the hypertension game), Enslaved is everything that Mirror's Edge COULD have been, but inexplicably chose to avoid. This is one of those games that hides in the shadows, too shy to come out and say hi, but that has so much to offer the party.
If you're thinking about giving this game a go - do it, it's so worth it. The characters are wonderful, you really do care about Monkey and Trip (really helped by fantastic voice acting and beautiful performance capture) the gameworld is stunning the story is compelling, oof it's just brilliant.
Enslaved isn't perfect - there were times when I wanted to scream in frustration at certain sections of clunky gameplay - but what it does well, it does better than nearly any other game I've played. I'm not a gaming snob - I loved COD: Black Ops and I'm getting very excited about the arrival of Gears 3 later this month, but I think it's tragic that millions and millions of people who will happily fork out for the latest iteration of COD, or Fifa, or Madden, won't take a chance on something different like this. This is one of the most intelligent, exciting, beautiful, thought provoking and touching games I have ever played and yet, commercially it's done terribly. I'm not a gaming snob - I loved COD: Black Ops and I'm getting very excited about the arrival of Gears 3 later this month, I imagine Enslaved must be the type of game that makes creative teams in the industry wonder why they bother.
